Subhash Ghai Says Shatrughan Sinha Was Over-Confident: 'His Biggest Problem Was...'
Subhash Ghai opened up about Shatrughan Sinha in a new interview. He said the veteran star was an over-confident actor.

Subhash Ghai described Shatrughan Sinha as an ‘over confident’ actor in a recent interview. The filmmaker, who is also the Rakhi brother of Sinha’s wife Poonam Sinha, made his directorial debut with Kalicharan, with Sinha in the lead in 1976. The film emerged as a massive hit. Ghai and Sinha reunited for two more outings — Vishwanath (1978) and Gautam Govinda (1979). While was sharing his thoughts on the actors he has worked with, Ghai mentioned the actor-turned-politician’s name and described his working style.

“Jo over-confident the wo humesha Shatrughan Sinha the. Shatrughan ka sabse bada problem tha wo kabhi time pe nahi pahunchta tha. (Shatrughan Sinha was always over confident. His biggest problem was he would never reach on time,)” Subhash Ghai told Arbaaz Khan on his talk show, The Invincibles Series.

Kaalicharan was a massive turning point in Shatrughan Sinha’s career. The film propelled him to a new height of success. After Kaalicharan’s released, offers rained on him and in the years that followed the film, Shatrughan delivered several films. In 1977 alone, he released nine films. In 1978, he was seen in seven movies. This included Ghai’s Vishwanath. In 1979, he was seen in eight films, one of which was Ghai’s 75th film, Gautam Govinda.

Besides Sinha, Ghai also spoke about Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. While talking about non actors and bad actors, the director admitted Jackie was a bad actor whereas Anil was one of the good actors he had worked with. “There are five types of actors. One is a non-actor and there is one called bad actor. Bad actor was Jackie Shroff, actor is Anil Kapoor,” he said.

Ghai had worked with Jackie Shroff in Hero (1983), which was also his acting debut film, and Anil in Meri Jung (1985) before he paired them together in Karma (1986), and Ram Lakhan (1989). He worked with Jackie again in Khal Nayak (1993) and with Anil in Taal (1999). All of these movies were massive hits.

In the same interaction, the filmmaker also spoke about working with Shah Rukh. He admitted that the director and the actor had issues with each other during the film’s making. “Jaise maine Pardes mein Shah Rukh Khan ke saath kaam kiya. Uske aur mere beech manmutaav chalta rehta tha, tu-tu main-main chalti rehti thi (I worked with Shah Rukh in Pardes. We had our share of disagreements),” the filmmaker said, seemingly referring to SRK.
