Fans of Marathi actor Chinmay Mandlekar were left distraught after he decided to hang his boots in the context of playing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the eight-part film series named Shivraj Ashtak. Chinmay’s decision to bid farewell to the role was the result of him being subjected to trolling for naming his son Jehangir, after a Mughal emperor. Highly perturbed by the trolling, the actor, in an Instagram post, announced his decision to step down from the role for the remaining two films of the Ashtak.
His decision led to widespread appeal from his fans to reconsider the decision as they refused to reimagine someone else as Chhatrapati Shivaji in the remaining films. Now, finally, the director of Shivraj Ashtak, Digpal Lanjekar, has reacted to this decision of Chinmay.
In a recent interview with Lokmat Filmi, director Digpal Lanjekar said, “I haven’t had any discussion with Chinmay about it yet. We have been communicating through brief messages. However, he did not have any detailed conversation with me before making this decision. We plan to have discussions soon. In my view, Chinmay will continue playing the role of Shivaji Maharaj in Shivraj Ashtak once I talk to him. Once we have our discussion, we will have a clearer picture of the outcome. Currently, I’m not in a position to elaborate, and there are many uncertainties.”
He continued, “Shivraj Ashtak is not just cinema. It is an emotion and is about people’s feelings. Any decision regarding the movie series has to be taken very intricately. Therefore, it would be wrong to say anything without proper discussion with Chinmay” It remains to be seen whether Digpal Lanjekar can convince Chinmay Mandlekar to stick to the role and fans can see him in the avatar of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj again. Chinmay has appeared in 6 films in the series already and was last seen in this year’s Shivrayancha Chhava.
