Richa Chadha SHOCKS Sonakshi Sinha, Reveals She Gave 99 Retakes For a Heeramandi Scene
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is currently streaming on Netflix.

Heeramandi stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sharmin Segal Mehta will be gracing the upcoming episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. On Wednesday, the makers of the show dropped a promo, sharing a glimpse of the comedy show’s upcoming episode. In the promo, the Heeramandi stars were talking about being a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s project and how hard it can get.

“When it is Sanjay sir’s film, there must be some nervousness on the first day, right?” Kapil asked to which Manisha Koirala said, “Absolutely, before every scene.” While Sonakshi Sinha also nodded in agreement, Richa Chadha then intervened and asked, “What’s your highest number of retakes?” To this, Sonakshi revealed that she has done a maximum of 12 retakes on Heeramandi sets. However, Richa shocked her when she revealed giving 99 retakes for a scene. Watch it here:

In Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Richa Chadha played the role of Lajjo. In a recent interview, the actress talked about being a part of Bhansali’s project when she revealed that even though she was offered another role in the show, she chose to essay Lajjo.

“When I was approached for ‘Heeramandi,’ at the time Sanjay sir was the showrunner, and I had been offered another part, one with more screentime for sure. But because an actor also needs to see what’s in here that’s new for me, I chose Lajjo,” Richa said.

The 37-year-old actress further revealed that she decided to choose Lajjo because she wanted a break from “empowered characters”, like the ones she played by Bholi Punjaban or Madam Chief Minister.

“I have experimented with characters that have a grey shade, like Bholi Punjaban or Tara in Madam Chief Minister. Basically, I get accused of playing only empowered characters, so I felt the need to break that stereotype and surprise the audience. I wanted to play a part of a hopeless romantic and leave the audience with goosebumps. That’s exactly what’s happening. People are calling me in tears,” the actress continued.

“Hence, when sir told me, come and check this character out, I was immediately drawn to Lajjo. I was certain this would pay off, and it has. The love within 24 hours has been overwhelming. Right from industry peers to filmmakers to friends and audiences have sent me such amazing love, I couldn’t be more grateful,” she added.
