Premam Director Alphonse Puthren Reveals Turning Down Back-To-Back Roles Due To Health Issues
Due to certain health issues, Alphonse Puthren took a break from his filmmaking career and is yet to make a comeback.

Known for directing films like Premam and Gold, Alphonse Puthren brought his filmmaking career to a halt last year due to health issues. Months after taking a major shift in his career path, the director has opened up about his work trajectory. Puthren also revealed a few projects that he had to let go of because of his health problems. In a recent interview with Kumudam, he revealed about being approached for the role of antagonist for films like Trance andParava. While he had to opt out of the projects at that time, he is now ready to act if anything comes up.

Puthren also opened up about how he has taken the time to address his issues during the break. For those unaware, Alphonse Puthren, in a candid confession, revealed his struggles with health issues and a delayed understanding of the condition. Later, he deleted the post, but not before fans took note and expressed their well wishes and supportive comments.

In his Instagram post, the Premam director said that “he didn’t want to be a burden” and thus has no option other than quitting cinema. However, he assured his fans that he would continue making short films and music videos.

Alphonse Puthren Turned These Films Down

To begin with, Alphonse Puthren was slated to play the lead antagonist alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon in Anwar Rasheed’s Trance. Featuring Fahadh Faasil in the lead role, the film tells the story of an atheist motivational speaker who is hired to pose as a fake Christian pastor.

On the other hand, Soubin Shahir’s 2017 film Parava was also in the pipeline for Puthren. The comedy-drama featured Shane Nigam, Arjun Ashokan, Jacob Gregory, Sreenath Bhasi and others in key roles. Dulquer Salmaan also played an extended cameo role in Parava.

Alphonse Puthren’s last directorial venture was Prithiviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara’s Gold. The film opened to mixed reviews and did average business. He is yet to announce his next project.
