Mirzapur season 3, the third instalment to the hit series Mirzapur, started streaming on July 5, on Amazon Prime Video and received mixed reviews. Directed by Gurmeet Singh and Anand Iyer, this series stars Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Vijay Varma and Isha Talwar in the important roles. 1. Phoolan Devi
Phoolan Devi won her first Lok Sabha election on the ticket of Samajwadi Party from Mirzapur constituency in 1996. Later, she lost the seat to BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)’s Virendra Singh in the 1998 general elections. In 1999, she again won the seat and held it till her assassination on July 25, 2001. Sher Singh Rana was convicted for the murder in 2014. As per a veteran journalist, Salil Pandey, Phoolan Devi’s popularity was so huge that when she got out of that car to campaign, people would run after her convoy.
2. Bal Kumar Patel
Brother of dreaded bandit Dadua (Shiv Kumar Patel)’s brother Bal Kumar Patel won the Mirzapur seat after contesting from the Samajwadi Party in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. According to the reports, many cases were filed against Bal Kumar at that time.
3. Ramlali Mishra
In 2016, elections were to be held on Mirzapur and Sonbhadra MLC (Member of the Legislative Council) seats. Tribhuvan Narayan Singh, brother of erstwhile BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) leader Vineet Singh and Ramlali, wife of Vijay Mishra, decided to contest in this election. These elections were marred by crimes ranging from kidnapping to beating. In this election, Vijay Mishra’s wife Ramlali defeated Vineet Singh’s brother Tribhuvan Narayan Singh and won Mirzapur and Sonbhadra.
4. Shyam Narayan Singh alias Vineet Singh
Shyam Narayan Singh or Vineet Singh won the MLC election on the BJP ticket. In 2017, after the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government was formed and Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister. Shyam Narayan Singh was elected unopposed as the SP party candidate contesting against him withdrew his application.
5. Atiq Ahmed to Mukhtar Ansari
Gangsters turned politicians Atiq Ahmed and Mukhtar Ansari often sought protection in Mirzapur. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead from point-blank range while being taken for a medical check-up on the night of April 15. Mukhtar Ansari died due to cardiac arrest on March 28, 2024, at 60 in the Rani Durgavati Medical College, Tindwara.
