Mrunal Thakur Says Dulquer Salmaan Is The Reason She Still Works In South Films

Actress Mrunal Thakur recently opened up about her admiration for Dulquer Salmaan, her co-star in the film Sita Ramam, during a candid interview. Describing herself as the ‘President of Dulquer Salmaan fan club’, she credited him as one of the reasons for her interest in working in South Indian languages. In a heartfelt conversation with Galatta Plus, the actress, who has starred in Family Star alongside Vijay Deverakonda, showered praises on Dulquer. “Dulquer is a God’s child. I am not shy to say that I am the president of the Dulquer Salmaan fan club because that is how much I admire him. He is so dedicated and not afraid of the language,” she recounted.

“I remember I told him in Kashmir, ‘Sita Ramam is my first and last film in Telugu. I will not do any Telugu film’. He just looked at me and said, ‘We’ll see’. I think one of the reasons why I am today considering Tamil film or Kannada film is probably because of him,” added Mrunal.

Thakur also discussed the challenges she faced while acting in an unfamiliar language, saying that she didn’t want to be in a space where she felt handicapped as she didn’t know the language.

Detailing her method of delivering dialogues in languages other than Hindi or her mother tongue Marathi, she explained that earlier she used to write a dialogue in Telugu and translate it into English because it was the only common language between her ADs.

Following her role in Sita Ramam, Mrunal appeared in the Telugu film Hi Nanna alongside Nani and the most recently released film Family Star.

Family Star centres around Govardhan (portrayed by Vijay Deverakonda), a middle-class man deeply devoted to his family’s happiness. The unexpected turn in his love life is a central theme of the movie.

Directed and penned by Parasuram Petla, this romantic family entertainer features Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. Produced by Dil Raju, the film, despite garnering mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike, has shown strong performance at the box office.

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film had a robust opening day on April 5, 2024, grossing approximately Rs 5.75 crores in net earnings across India.
