Malayalam Filmmaker Aroma Mani Dies At 65

Aroma Mani, also known as M. Mani, passed away at the age of 65 on July 14. The renowned Indian film producer and director took his last breath at his residence in Kunnukuzhi, as reported by The New Indian Express. Mani made significant contributions to Indian cinema, producing around 60 screenplays and directing seven films. His works were released under the banners of Aroma Movie International and Sunita Production.

According to India TV News, Mani died on Sunday at approximately 2:30 pm, with family members attributing his death to age-related ailments. Mani’s body will be kept at Bharat Bhavan on Monday for the public to pay their respects. The funeral will take place later in the afternoon at his property in Aruvikkara. Prominent political figures, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, expressed their condolences.

Mani was celebrated for his numerous Malayalam films, including hits like Dhruvam, Irupatham Noottandu, and Oru CBI Diary Kurippu. He began his production career in 1977 with Dheere Sameera Yamuna Theere, and his last produced film was Artist, directed by Shyamaprasad in 2013, starring Fahadh Faasil. For over four decades, Mani was a dominant figure in the Malayalam film industry, producing many super-hit movies. His influence extended to the Tamil film industry as well.

One of his notable films, Thinkalazhcha Nalla Divasam (1985), won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for its exploration of family relationships in a rural setting threatened by urban culture. Another film, Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam, produced by Mani and directed by Sibi Malayil, won the National Prize Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.

Aroma Mani, the man behind many celebrated and superhit movies of the 80s and 90s, will be remembered forever in the Indian film industry. His legacy of contributing significantly to Malayalam cinema has left an indelible mark, ensuring that his works and influence will continue to be honoured and remembered by future generations.
