Directed by Robert D. Krzykowsk, Grendel will feature actors Jeff Bridges, Dave Bautista and Bryan Cranston.

In the latest development regarding Robert D. Krzykowsk’s upcoming live-action film Grendel, actor Jeff Bridges has been roped in to play the classic monster. Among other cast additions, Dave Bautista has been signed to play Beowulf, while Bryan Cranston will portray King Hrothgar. Notably, the film is adapted from John Gardner’s 1971 novel of the same and will be made under the banner of The Jim Henson Company. Palisades Park Pictures will take care of the international sales of the flick at the Cannes market.

Apart from Bridges, Bautista, and Cranston, Grendel also features Sam Elliott as The Dragon, Thomasin McKenzie as Queen Wealhtheow, Aidan Turner as Unferth, and T Bone Burnett as the Shaper, who will also provide original songs for the film, according to a Deadline report.

Grendel will be produced by Brian Henson and Vince Raisa under their Jim Henson Company, along with Krzykowski, Jay Glazer, Dennis Berardi, and Jon D. Wagner. Bridges as executive producers. Additionally, John Sayles, Tamara Birkemoe, and Joe Jenckes of Ashland Hill Media Finance will finance the movie.

The film’s production is expected to begin later this year in Europe. Grendel’s plot is touted as the “tale of the legendary monster at the heart of the Beowulf epic poem who steps forth to tell his side of this riveting story.”

Speaking about the film, director Robert D. Krzykowsk expressed gratitude for having gotten the chance to work with the team and visualising John Gardner’s “mad masterpiece.” “Grendel represents everything I love about the movies. John Gardner’s mad masterpiece cleverly tackles what it is to be human through the wild-eyed lens of a monster. It’s an honor to work with such a remarkable group of storytellers, all of whom seek to bring something wonderful and unexpected to audiences now,” he said in a statement as quoted by the outlet.

On the other hand, Palisades Park Pictures CEO Tamara Brikemoe shared that they look forward to introducing the “elevated, high-concept” story to the distributors, further adding, “With this brilliant cast, Bob’s vivid vision, and the extraordinary creative track record of our friends at The Jim Henson Company, we cannot wait to see Grendel come to life.”
