Imran Khan is taking baby steps back into the industry. The actor, best known for his rom-com roles, has been away from the limelight for almost a decade now. However, he recently hinted he’s open to making a Bollywood comeback. Fans are hoping that he’d return as the rom-com hero we know, maybe even as Jai Singh Rathore in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa 2. However, Imran doesn’t feel the film’s sequel is in the making.
In a new interview, Imran Khan said that the film, which also starred Genelia D’Souza (now Deshmukh), captured the journey of Jai’s coming-of-age in a well-rounded way that there might not be anything more to explore in the sequel. “Jaane Tu was the story of so many people but for my part, it was the journey of Jai from boyhood to manhood,” he told Vogue India.
“It is the story of two young people growing up, understanding what they seek in a partner and finding their way to love. It culminates so nicely that I don’t know what additional emotional growth you could have for these characters,” he added.
Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na released in 2008. The film marked Imran’s Bollywood debut. Written and directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Mansoor Khan and Aamir Khan, the film revolved around two best friends who don’t realise that they are in love with each other. The slice of life rom-com film was a massive hit and the songs are often revisited even today. The film also marked Prateik Babbar’s debut. He played Genelia’s brother in the film.
As for Imran, he was in movies such as I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu before he did his last film, Katti Batti, in 2015. He then took a sabbatical from acting.
