Henry Cavill has made it clear, he’s not a fan of sex scenes featured in series and movies these days. In a new chat, the former Superman actor spoke about the rise of intimate scenes shown on screen and confessed that he feels these scenes are being ‘overused’ now. Cavill, who was recently seen in Argylle, said it is sometimes okay to let few things be left to the imagination.
Appearing on Happy Sad Confused podcast with his Argylle director Matthew Vaughn, Cavill opened up about his thoughts on sex scenes seen on screen these days. “I don’t understand them – I’m not a fan. There are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days,” he said, as reported by Variety.
“It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’” he continued. “And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie,’” he added.
Cavill agreed that there are times when “sex scenes can be great in a movie” and “can really help with the storytelling. Most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it. So, it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going, ‘Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, ‘Oh naked person, great.'”
Meanwhile, Argylle has no sex scene, which seemingly works for Cavill. The film released in theatres last week. Besides Cavill, the film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson.
