Today, as Mahesh Babu celebrates his birthday, we present before you some of his most successful big screen outings.

Hyderabad: Mahesh Babu is undoubtedly one of the most popular stars in the Telugu film industry at present. The stylish actor, who made his big screen debut as a child artist in 1979, enjoys tremendous fan following thanks to his good looks, powerful dialogue delivery, suave screen presence and the uncanny ability to pull off pulsating action scenes with absolute ease.

Today, as Mahesh celebrates his birthday, we present before you some of his most successful big screen outings.

Okkadu: Directed by Gunasekhar, ‘Okkadu’ is regarded as one of the most significant releases of Mahesh Babu’s career. Touted as an intense drama, it proved to be a critical and commercial success, helping the actor bag a Filmfare award. Interestingly, prior to the film’s release his career was in the doldrums courtesy two box office failures namely ‘Bobby’ and ‘Takkari Donga’.

Murari: Touted as a supernatural-thriller, ‘Murari’ is perhaps best remembered for its disturbing storyline and captivating screenplay. Playing the role of a young man who becomes the victim of a dreaded curse, Mahesh Babu delivered a riveting performance and ended up winning a Nandi award. Interestingly, the movie marked the final big screen appearance of legendary Telugu actor Dhulipala.

Nijam: Revolving around a son’s attempts at punishing those responsible for his father death, ‘Nijam’ created quite a stir amongst movie buffs courtesy Mahesh Babu’s awe-inspiring performance. Despite opening to a mixed response at the box office, the film proved to be a commercial success and helped the superstar consolidate his position in the industry. Released in 2003, ‘Nijam’ was later on dubbed into Hindi as ‘Meri Adalat’.

Pokkiri: Released in 2006 and touted as an action-drama, ‘Pokkiri is often regarded as the very personification of a mass entertainer. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film featured Mahesh Babu in the role of an undercover cop and gave him an opportunity to showcase the macho side of his personality. Needless to say the actor did full justice to his role and received rave reviews. A runaway hit at the ticket window, ‘Pokkiri’ was later on remade in Hindi as ‘Wanted’ which had Salman Khan in the lead role.

1 Nenokkadine: Boasting of some catchy music from Devi Sri Prasad, ‘1: Nenokkadine’ was a big money spinner not just in India but also in the US. Touted as a thriller, it highlighted the life of a man who suffers from a medical condition called Integration Disorder. Interestingly, ‘1: Nenokkadine’ also featured Mahesh Babu’s son Gautham Krishna in a significant role.

Dookudu: Loosely based on the popular German film ‘Good Bye, Lenin’ and touted as an action-comedy, this Srinu Vaitla-directed venture received the proverbial thumbs up from critics and audiences alike because of its simple yet engaging storyline and relatable performances. Also featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles, the film bagged several awards and fared well on the commercial front.
