Chiranjeevi Wants Bharat Ratna For NTR: 'Hope Central Government Heeds Telugu People's Wish'
Chiranjeevi said that the Bharat Ratna would be a fitting tribute for the former CM of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Chiranjeevi has asked that the Bharat Ratna award be posthumously given to NTR. He took to social media and said that the Bharat Ratna would be a “fitting tribute” for the Telugu superstar and former CM of undivided Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao. Chiranjeevi also shared a throwback photo of NTR on his 101st birth anniversary.

Chiranjeevi wrote, “The fame of some is immortal. He is an eternal example for future generations. Remembering Nandamuri Tarak Rama Rao today. I think the Bharat Ratna award is a fitting tribute to his services in public life. I hope that the central government will heed this long-standing wish of the Telugu people (sic).”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao aka NTR on his 101st birth anniversary. Taking to X, PM Modi remembered him as a ‘remarkable icon’ of the Telugu film industry. He also described him as a ‘visionary leader.’ The BJP leader added that he and the country will work towards fulfilling his vision. NTR was the 10th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Telugu superstar Jr NTR’s grandfather.

“Remembering the legendary NTR on his birth anniversary. He was a remarkable icon of Telugu cinema and a visionary leader. His contributions to film and politics continue to inspire generations. From his unforgettable roles on screen to his transformative leadership, he is fondly remembered. We will keep working to fulfil his vision for our society,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Meanwhile, Jr NTR visited his grandfather’s memorial, NTR Ghat, on Tuesday to mark his 101st birth anniversary. Tarak was joined by his half-brother Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. In a video shared on X, the Devara star was seen at the memorial with folded hands. He then sat on the ground with Kalyan and observed a moment of silence. The RRR star remained unfazed by the crowd around him. NTR’s son, actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna was also spotted at the ghat. He arrived with his team and offered his respects to his late father.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) was a legendary actor, filmmaker and politician. He served as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. In addition, he starred in 300 movies and won three National Awards. He died on January 18, 1996, at his Hyderabad residence.
