Ayushmann Khurrana Reveals How He 'Snatched' Andhadhun: 'Hustling Is Very Important For Outsiders...'

Ayushmann Khurrana recently revisited his 2018 cult classic Andhadhun.

With rich content-driven and commercial films, Ayushmann Khurrana has come a long way in showbiz. The actor has played several memorable roles. Having said that, his 2018 film Andhadhun remains one of his most iconic ones to date. The actor recently opened up about the film and also confessed to ‘snatching’ the film from Sriram Raghavan. He also revealed how Raghavan felt that he didn’t ‘fit’ the part initially.

In an interview with Mashable, opening up about how he ‘hustled’ for the cult classic, Ayushmann shared, “I have snatched the film from him. I have hustled in the film. Hustling is very important for outsiders, and I am still hustling. I had come to know that he is writing and making this film, so I showed up at his office and told him that I want to do this film, and he said that I can’t see you in this film, which is just what Anubhav Sinha told me for Article 15. He too had said, ‘I don’t see you in this film’ and I had asked him to audition me. After you become a successful actor, people don’t ask you to audition. In the West, however, the biggest stars still audition. So I am not ashamed. If you have confidence in your craft, then why can’t you give an audition?”

The actor then revealed that Sriram auditioned him without his knowledge. “He said, ‘We’ll jam on these scenes’. He was kind of auditioning for me. I was like, ‘Let’s do this’. I had this excitement in me. Whenever a film comes to me, I treat it as my first film. It feels like the first project; give it your all. Until you have that excitement, there is no fun in life.”

Opening up further, the actor also revealed how he and his co-star Tabu never realised that Andhadhun was a dark comedy. “We also didn’t know that Andhadhun was going to be a funny film. Tabu and I were very serious; he didn’t tell us that it was a dark comedy.”

He added, “He [Sriram Raghavan] didn’t tell us the genre. It was like going blind, literally. I was acting like I was blind, and truly, something very bad had happened to me. People were then laughing when the film was edited; I didn’t understand why they were laughing. Because after going through that journey, you feel you have made a very serious film. There is a shock value, and because of that shock value, people are laughing. I am going inside the loo to pee, and there is a guy standing there with a gun, and people are laughing! I was like, What’s there to laugh about?”

Back in 2018, Andhadhun turned out to be a massive hit at the box office, with a worldwide collection of almost Rs 400 crore.
