Alia Bhatt took the internet by storm when she attended her second Met Gala in a custom Sabyasachi saree. Alia’s entry in the traditional outfit received the loudest cheers on the red carpet at the Met Gala. The Met Gala is one the most exclusive fashion events in the world and it’s not easy to get access to a seat inside the museum on Met Monday.
As per reports, one ticket for the Met Gala costs around $75,000 while entire tables start at $350,000. This amount is used to fund the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Reports mention that while tables are bought by companies and design houses for their guests, individual seats are paid for by the celebrities themselves. In any case, each attendee needs to be approved by Anna Wintour.
The whopping ticket price not only includes an invite to the Met Gala but also a chance to witness some of the most exclusive performances by top artists. One can also view archival fashion pieces on display at the museum, especially for the Gala. Celebrities are also served a wide variety of food and drinks.
So, did Alia Bhatt pay $75,000 (roughly Rs. 63 lakh) to walk the red carpet on the iconic Met steps? While it remains unclear if Alia funded her ticket, it should be noted that Alia’s attendance at the Met Gala has established her celebrity status on a global level. International paparazzi couldn’t stop screaming Alia’s name as she posed for them on the red carpet.
“I’m feeling great. I’m feeling very excited. Months of preparation, lots of conversations and all builds up to this one moment. It’s so surreal but it’s also very special. It’s my second time at the Met, but my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the dress code, ‘Garden of Time’, I felt it needed something timeless and there’s nothing timeless than a saree,” Alia told Vogue during the red carpet interview.
Last year, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Alia recalled walking the Met Gala 2023 red carpet among some of the biggest names in Hollywood. “The little girl in me was just making sure that I don’t fall down on the red carpet and that I was getting enough time to pose, take a breath and enjoy the moment,” she told us.
While it made for a historic moment, Alia made sure that the pressure didn’t bog her down. “It’s not about giving yourself too much pressure and taking it seriously. It’s a massive and big deal but it was also about having fun and light on the inside, so that your face looks lit up and happy. That’s something I was focusing on. Having said that, I really had a lovely time,” she said. Last year, the ticket price for the Met Gala was reportedly $50,000 (nearly Rs 42 lakh).
Meanwhile, on the film front, Alia will soon be seen in Jigra. The film is directed by Vasan Bala and jointly produced by Alia and Karan Johar. She has also signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
