In the era of larger-than-life movies that appeal to the masses, Malayalam cinema has always been grounded in comparison, narrating content-driven stories, easily relatable to the common man. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham, marketed internationally as The Goat Life is one fine example. The film, which reportedly took 16 years to make, was directed by Blessy and is based on the novel of the same name by Benyamin. Aadujeevitham was released on March 28 and has been doing good business at the box office.
Although there has been a slight decline in the collections since the first weekend, the film is still maintaining a steady hold at the box office. According to a report by Sacnilk, Aadujeevitham had an opening of 7.6 crores across the country. After this, it earned Rs 6.25 crore on the second day, Rs 7.75 crore on the third day, Rs 8.7 crore on the fourth day and Rs 5.4 crore on the fifth day. After this, the film did a business of Rs 4.4 crore on the sixth day and Rs 3.75 crore on the seventh day. According to Saknilk’s early trend, the film earned Rs 3.25 crore on the 8th day across the country. Till now the total collection of this film has been Rs 47.10 crore.
The movie will reach the Rs 50 cr domestic milestone on Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday, it will garner even more. On the global collection front, Aadujeevitham is expected to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark after its second weekend. Made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, the film is certainly a profitable venture.
It is to be noted that Aadujeevitham is racing way ahead of the recently released Manjummel Boys, which held the record for the highest-grossing Malayalam film. Manjummel Boys had made Rs 26.35 crore after eight days, way behind what Aadujeevitham had managed to generate at the same time.
