Why Skin Health Is More Important In Monsoons?
Since the weather is humid and the skin gets sweaty, it’s important to take care of the skin during this season.

Monsoon is definitely the most awaited of all seasons but it brings a series of skin woes for many—open pores, dull skin, and infection along body folds. Since the weather is humid and the skin gets sweaty, it’s important to take care of the skin during this season.

The best skincare routine for monsoon is to use a serum, sunblock, or skin essence and sun block for normal skin. “If your skin is oily, essence and skin mist or sunblock work. If your skin is dry, use a light moisturizer, and then use a sun block. For severely dry skin, you can use three layers: serum or essence first, then moisturizer, and then sunblock,” shares Dr. Rashmi Shetty, dermatologist.

Dr Shetty suggests other things you can do to avoid skin damage during the rain:

  1. Reduce the number of layers. More layers can clog your pores, resulting in more stickiness. This is a great season to try supplements like collagen, sodium hyaluronate, lutein, and zeaxanthin. You could also try omega oils in your diet.
  2. Opt for internal sunscreens like antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, if the sunscreen gets sticky.
  3. Using AHAs and BHAs would make a huge difference, in case of open pores and oily skin, or tan from the previous summer. Also, if you want it lighter, use serums with Vitamin C.
  4. Use the safest ingredients, like niacinamide, arbutin, kojic acid, and azelaic acid, in that order if the skin is dry, sensitive, and tanned. Ensure that you help the skin recover first before treating the tan.
  5. Infections arise along the skin folds due to humidity. If you’re drenched, dry the clothes, air your body folds, wipe them with dry tissues, and dry yourself. Use dusting powders, talcum powders, and anti-fungal powders as per your doctor’s prescription.
  6. Exfoliators containing very mild beads and not too harsh on the skin once a week would be great for bringing your skin forward and unclogging your pores so that your serums and essences work.
