National Security Day (NSD) is observed on March 4 every year in India. NSD is also known as Rashtriya Suraksha Diwas, which honours the Indian security forces. The purpose of the day is to express gratitude to our security forces, which include the police, paramilitary, guards, commandos, army officers, and other forces involved in maintaining our country’s peace and security. The idea of National Security Day or National Safety Day was launched in 1972. The National Safety Council (NSC) takes responsibility for managing the event every year.

National Security Day 2024: History And Significance

National Security Day, also known as National Safety Day, was founded in 1972 and is held annually. On March 4, 1966, the Ministry of Labour established the Safety Council to promote a long-term safety, health, and environmental movement.

The National Safety Council’s primary goal and mission is to ensure the successful implementation of the safety, health, and environment (SHE) campaign. The NSC believes that safety leadership plays an important role in ESG Excellence.

The Council announces a new theme every year to celebrate the week-long event. They raise awareness of various mishaps and topics that need to be addressed by officials and citizens of India. During the week-long celebration, the NSC aims to educate people on the respective themes as well as work towards the betterment of their citizens.

The council has been working for such a noble cause, which is why they urged NSC members to commemorate their founding day as National Security Day of India. The one-day celebration was soon expanded into a week-long event known as National Safety Week.

The National Safety Council is a government-sponsored non-profit organisation. As previously stated, the council encourages the SHE movement.
