Summer is the season of mango and blackberry. Another fruit is also found in many villages across the country during this season. It is known as Badhal fruit. This fruit is less discussed, but proves to be a boon for health. Badhal, also known as Hadhar, Monkey Fruit, Artocarpus Lakucha, Dheu, Lakucha or Dahe, is small in size and turns light red and yellow upon ripening. While talking to News18, Ayurvedacharya Dr Sarvesh Kumar of Government Ayurveda College and Hospital, Lucknow, shared many more benefits of Badhal. He said that Badhal or Monkey Fruit is rich in properties like zinc, copper, iron, manganese, vitamin C, beta carotene, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial etc. Regular consumption provides relief from body heat, promote liver health. Not only the fruit, but the seeds are considered effective for health. Eating Badhal in excess can also be harmful. Let’s take a look at some of its health benefits:
Improves skin complexion: According to experts, Badhal fruit is rich in antioxidant properties, which helps in protecting the skin from wrinkles. It provides relief from problems like skin wounds and skin ageing. The seeds are believed to be effective for wound healing as well.
Keeps the liver healthy: Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties are found in Badhal, which takes better care of the liver. You can consume it both raw and cooked. Consuming it regularly reduces the risk of liver-related diseases.
