One of the biggest reasons to look forward to the scorching summer season is the availability of juicy and sweet mangoes. Devouring this fruit is one of the most favourite things which almost everyone enjoys. But as soon as a pimple appears on the face, a mango is believed to be the cause. Because of such myths, many refrain from eating this fruit. But what exactly is the truth behind this?
Well-known nutritionist and diet expert Simrat Kathuria shared that there are a few components of mangoes, which may cause pimples on the skin. She shared a very simple trick to follow before eating mangoes to avoid the problem of acne and pimples on the face.
Simrat Kathuria dropped a post on Instagram where she shared a few insights regarding mangoes.
– High glycaemic index
As per the expert, mangoes have a high glycaemic index, which leads to increased blood sugar levels, and insulin spikes that can trigger acne.
– High sugar content
Mangoes are sweet because of the presence of natural sugars in them that can further elevate insulin resistance and inflammation. Together, this can contribute to acne formation.
– Excess Oil Production
Mangoes may stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. This clogs the pores and causes acne.
– Heat generation
It is believed that mangoes are heat-generating fruit and hence, they increase the internal body heat which leads to acne.
– Allergic reaction
Some individuals may have mild allergic reactions to mangoes, which can once again cause the skin to inflame and get acne.
So how would one enjoy mangoes in the summer season without the fear of acne problems? Well, as per the expert, phytic acid is found in mangoes when eaten in large quantities. It is also found in many dry fruits like almonds. Hence, the best way to enjoy this fruit is to soak it in water for an hour or at least 20 minutes before eating it.
