Berlin: Britain's foreign secretary says his country won't participate in airstrikes on Syria, following an announcement from Washington that it would begin hitting targets inside the country. Speaking on Thursday after talks with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Philip Hammond said that Britain won't be "revisiting" the issue after Parliament decided last year against participating in airstrikes.

The comments come after President Barack Obama said late on Wednesday that he had authorized US airstrikes inside Syria for the first time, along with expanded strikes in Iraq as part of a "steady, relentless effort" to root out Islamic State extremists.
