BANGALORE: Indecision cuts both ways. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s equivocal and indecisive stance whether or not to attend the birthday bash of his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa at Hubli on Sunday, shows his dilemma and he is not alone facing this predicament.Gowda’s position is understandable. The purpose of the bash is to celebrate the 70th birthday of Yeddyurappa in North Karnataka in order to enable lakhs of his supporters to greet him. But the chief minister is not aware of the intent of the bash and content of the speech to be delivered by Yeddyurappa at the mammoth convention. What will Yeddyurappa’s response be if his supporters raise a demand for the immediate change of leadership following the High Court verdict clearing the former CM of charges made out in the Lokayukta report? Will he be magnanimous in calming his supporters by saying that the high command would take an appropriate decision at the right time? Or will he allow his admirers to embarrass the CM and others on the dais? On the other hand, if Gowda does not attend the convention, he will then invite the charge of not being magnanimous in attending the “innocuous” birthday bash of the mass leader. It is for this reason Gowda on Sunday did not commit himself whether he would attend the convention or not. “I have lined up Budget meetings in the city. I have to address meetings in Chikmagalur. I don’t know whether I will be able to go or not but I think I might go,” the CM said.
