New Delhi: Ananya Chatterjee won Best Actress at the 57th National Film Awards for her role in Rituparno Ghosh’s “Abohoman” which traces the twists and turns in the relationship between an aging film director and his lead actress.
Chatterjee plays Shikha, a young actress who becomes the love interest of Aniket, a married man with a near-perfect family.
An overwhelmed Ananya Chatterjee said this was her first major award and credited Ghosh with the win. Chatterjee said she has “learnt a lot” from observing Ghosh, according to IANS news agency.
We take a look at some of the roles she has played over the years.
Known for her roles on the small screen, Chatterjee dubbed for actress Bipasha Basu in Sob Charitro Kalpanik (All Characters are Imaginary), a film by Rituparno Ghosh.
Raat Barota Paanch: Chatterjee made her debut on the silver screen with Sharan Dutta's thriller Raat Barota Paanch (2005) prior to which she appeared on various television serials and telefilms, including three by singer-turned-director Anjan Dutt.
Dwando: Chatterjee played Sudipta in Dwando (2009), written and directed by award-winning NRI film-maker Suman Ghosh. She played a woman who has an affair outside her marriage.
Prabhu Noshto Hoi Jai: Chatterjee acted in Agnidev Chatterjee's Prabhu Noshto Hoi Jai which was released in 2007.
Angshumaner Chobi: Atanu Ghosh's debut feature film Angshumaner Chhobi (2009) premiered at the 40th International Film Festival of India in Goa. Chatterjee played a no-nonsense cop solving a homicide.
Abohoman: Rituparno Ghosh's Abohoman explores the shades of various relationships. Chatterjee played the love interest of a married director. Ghosh won a National Best Director Award for this film.
Iti Mrinalini: Chatterjee played a role in Aparna Sen's Iti Mrinalini, which depicted an actress looking back at her life. Sen played the older Mrinalini while her daughter Konkona plays the younger version.
Tok Jhal Mishti: Chatterjee appeared in Basu Chatterjee's Tok Jhal Mishti, a romantic film released in 2002, starring Firdous Ahmed and Priyanka Trivedi in the lead roles.
