HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner M T Krishna Babu on Thursday visited Jawaharnagar dumping yard to check treatment and disposal facilities. The civic body has initiated an Integrated Solid Waste Management Project for scientific disposal of municipal solid waste as per the directions of the Supreme Court and MSW Rules, 2000.The concessionaire, M/s. Hyderabad Integrated MSW Ltd, has completed the required works at the dumping yard.The commissioner, during his visit, discussed land encroachment issues at the dumping yard with the joint collector, RDO and others. Of the 339 acres, 67.4 acres have been encroached.After the discussions, the Commissioner said the GHMC was prepared to pay compensation to the encroachers so that they can find shelter elsewhere after the judgements from the respective courts come and on hearing from the District Collector, Rangareddy.On the request of the residents of Cheeryal village, the commissioner instructed officials to provide potable drinking water of 10 trips per day, maintain proper street lighting and take up fogging twice a week in the area.He also wanted the officials to take up road widening works from Ahmedguda Junction to Jawaharnagar dump site.
