VELLORE: A MoU between VIT university and the Bangalore based Wipro for the second phase of ‘Mission 10X’ programme, which is a national mission to improve the quality of teachers in engineering institutions, was signed on Tuesday. Mission10X, Wipro’s non-profit trust, aims at increasing the employability skills of engineering graduates by bringing systemic changes in the teaching learning process and by introducing innovative classroom experiences.G Viswanathan from VIT and Dr Nagarjuna, head of Mission10X signed the memorandum, which pledges continued support to Mission10X. The programme includes organising faculty empowerment workshops (FEWs) to encourage innovateive teaching methods. Academic Staff College of VIT through its Master Trainers has, so far, trained 525 faculty members of the University. Mission10X itself has trained 20,000 engineering faculty across the country. The Government of India has declared 2010-2020 as the ‘Decade of Innovation’ as innovation drives increased productivity and competitiveness in all sectors of the national economy. In the past, industries have been lamenting that only 3 per cent of engineering graduates are employable and students graduated without the ‘right skills’.But this scenario is changing, through Mission10X. The paradigm shifted from teaching to learning.
