ULUNDA(SONEPUR): Several of the pre-poll pledges made by the BJD Government have not been given a relook. After the Assembly elections the leaders seem to have forgotten their promises as a result of which the situation remains unchanged in many rural areas. Village Saradhajhuli under Jaloea in Ulunda block of Birmaharajpur sub division shines as a bright example on the neglect front. The village inhabited by about 40 families, mostly BPL, is deprived of basic amenities. A visit to the village gives one a feel that the Government have failed to launch welfare schemes. The village awaits power supply, does not even have a school and ‘kutcha’ roads are their only link to the other parts of the district. Though no concrete road is in sight, a plaque reading laying of concrete road in the village stands there since 2000.The villagers also struggle for water. Depleting water levels have made collection of water from tube-wells difficult as villagers have to pump for long to collect a bucketful. Though inhabited by families belonging to BPL categories, the village does not have a single house under IAY. Vexed with the government’s neglect the 200-odd villagers have resolved to boycott panchayat polls.
