New Delhi: Operation Rahat launched by the Indian Air Force in Uttarakhand is the biggest rescue mission launched by it in its history. The IAF has employed several many methods in the mission which has made it easy to rescue the trapped people from the floods and landslides hit regions of Uttarakhand.
The Army soldiers have also come as angels for the trapped people. When Army teams got the news about a pregnant lady in Tawaghat sector then Captain Doctor Febha Susan was summoned. She trekked for 15 kms through forests and hills and delivered the baby safely. Later, the army transferred the mother and her baby to a safe place in Dharchula.
Army troops have been busy carrying the children, old, sick and injured people on shoulders and taking them to safe places. Several medical camps have also been set up by the forces involved in rescue work where free treatment is being given to the injured people. They have also built rope bridges and Burma bridges, and saved thousands of people.
Paratroopers were dropped in isolated areas between Gaurikund and Kedarnath where helicopters could not land. IAF and Army helicopters have carried out thousands of sorties to help rescue the stranded people.
The Army, ITBP and NDRF have announced that all those trapped in Gaurikund have been rescued and have stopped their operations in the area. The focus is now on Harsil and Badrinath where many are still trapped. The road link to Badrinath has been restored.
Even the BRO has done an exemplary job in restoring road connectivity in a highly treacherous condition. The BRO has 3,500 personnel involved in the Uttarakhand mission who are busy restoring the road link.
