Lucknow: The ownership case of Babri mosque took a new turn on Thursday evening with the UP Shia Waqf Board deciding to be a party of the ongoing court cases on the issue.
This was decided after a two-day meeting of the board in Lucknow. The waqf body will submit its claim in all the courts where cases related to Babri Masjid are going on.
The board has decided to challenge a 1946 court order that awarded the ownership of the Babri mosque to the Sunni Central Waqf Board.
Waseem Rizvi, chairman of Shia Central Waqf Board, said the role of the UP Shia Central Waqf Board in 1946 is questionable. He said it appears that lawsuits related to the Shia Central Waqf Board were deliberately avoided.
The board has also decided to sack UP minister Mohsin Raza from the post of mutawalli (caretaker) of Wakf alia Begum of Safipur Unnao. “Raza was found guilty of selling waqf properties after proper inquiry, hence he was dismissed. Inspector of Shia Waqf Board, Wazir Hasan, has been appointed as administrator of Wafa Alia Begum Safipur Unnao,” Rizvi told News18.
He said Raza’s house in Lucknow’s Mehtab Bagh is allegedly built on land that belongs to Moti Masjid. “We have asked the District Magistrate of Lucknow to ensure handing over the property back," said Rizvi.
