TNPSC exam cancelled, 6 arrested
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group II exam was cancelled following Sunday's paper leak.

Erode/Chennai: Several months of hard work put in by nearly 6.4 lakh government job aspirants went in vain on Monday with the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) cancelling the Group II examination conducted by it, following Sunday’s question paper leak. The leak in the General Knowledge paper was detected in Erode and Dharmapuri.

In a related development, police in Erode arrested two college teachers and a couple for allegedly sourcing and circulating a handwritten manuscript containing key questions. A couple of teachers was arrested at Tiruvannamalai as well. A hunt is on to trace Balan, the kingpin of the racket, who is believed to be in Chennai.

TNPSC chairman R Nataraj, who had assumed office with the specific task of ridding it of corruption, said the exam stood cancelled. Throwing up his hands on a “foolproof” system having gone awry, he said: “If one individual chooses to be dishonest, it’s beyond our power. Human failure is something we can’t control.”

The scandal came to light when alert candidate-cum-Village Administrative Officer Revathi confronted fellow candidate Dhanakodi of Erode over the similarity in the questions asked in the exam and the ones that figured in a ‘sample’ question paper that the latter had.

Grilling Dhanakodi led police to her husband Senthil. Through him they traced a chain of e-mails leading to the arrest of six persons, including Senthil.
