NAGERCOIL: The matriculation school run by People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) coordinator S P Udayakumar at Eru-mbucadu near Nagercoil was vandalized on Wednesday. This is the second attack on this institution.SACCER (South Asian Community Centre For Educational Research) Matriculation School run by Udayakumar has been functioning for the last 10 years. The school has classes from LKG to VIII with a strength of 210 students, both boys and girls. On Wednesday morning, when the nanny came to open the school, she found the compound wall razed, the school van, classrooms and library vandalized. She immediately contacted the School Correspondent and Udayakumar’s wife Meera Udayakumar. “After the earlier attack, we requested that a policeman be posted at the school premises during the night. A constable was deputed for a few days but citing various reasons he was withdrawn,” Meera said. “When the police started cordoning Idinthakarai to arrest Udayakumar, I was scared the school might be targeted again. So, on Monday I approached the Rajakkamangalam police. A policeman was posted on Tuesday,” she said. On Wednesday morning, when Meera found that the school had been vandalized, she took up the matter with the Rajakkamangalam station’s SI. She said that around midnight she had got a call from the office of the Superintendent of Police. She was told that there was a suspected case of sand smuggling near Azhikal near Colachel seashore. She was also told that along with the SI, the policeman at her school was required to go for inspection. “But the SI, who went to the said spot with another policeman, found nothing there,” she said.Meanwhile, the policeman, who was on night duty at the school, received a phone call from the SP’s office. He was told to go to another location. This was around 2pm, added Meera. “From these incidents, I strongly suspect that the attack on our school was pre-planned and executed with the knowledge of the police. I suspect that the State is behind this attack,” Meera told Express. She further said that two days back she had received an anonymous letter. The letter, which was in Tamil and was purportedly written by ‘Indians who love Mother India’, was threatening in nature. It instructed Meera to go to Germany and run her school there. However, SP Pravaesh Kumar refuted the charges made by Meera.
