BANGALORE: Nearly 800 students were sensitised on issues of energy efficiency and security and nuclear safety issues in the city on Thursday, as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, along with BBMP and State Government organised a one-day seminar on energy needs for school students.Stressing the need to pay attention to country’s energy needs, M S Mohan Kumar, secretary KSCST said, “After the green and white revolution, it is now time for blue (water) and energy security revolution in the country.” He added India would soon surpass Japan as one of the economic superpowers in Asia, and would need more sources of energy in the coming years.Asking students to work together as a team to reduce environmental damage, B R Prabhakar, former chief secretary of Karnataka said, “Environment is a public asset and no one can ignore contributing for its maintenance,” and added children have to be involved in the entire thought process on alternative sources of energy and environment saving measures.As part of KSCST’s National Science Day celebrations, various competitions and painting displays on the theme ‘Energy Security’ were organised. YB Ramakrishna, executive chairman of Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board was present at the inaugural.
