At a ripe 71 the Dalai Lama has neither lost his vigour nor his smile. As Tibetans worldwide celebrated his birthday in the Tibetan refugee colony of Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi there was a special touch to the celebrations.

A month ago they had been ordered evicted because the colony was too close to the Yamuna.

A resident of Majnu ka Tilla Lobsang says, “I was sad when we received the notice, I thought we were going to loose our home. We were deeply worried.”

Fortunately the Delhi government intervened.

Chief Minister, Shiela Dixit says, "No house will be touched on this side or that side of the road. Since the road needs to be widened a kind of a flyover over the present road will be built so that these people are not disturbed at all."

On Dalai Lama's birthday, the Tibetan colony settled on the banks of river Yamuna have got an assurance from Chief Minister Sheila Dixit that they will not have to vacate their home away from home.
