HYDERABAD: High drama and tension prevailed at the Jubilee Hills police station where Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal was kept after his arrest at the RTA office at Khairatabad on Tuesday. The drama ended after the police towed away Rajagopal's car with the MP sitting in it, similar to a scene in a Telugu movie.
Coming out of the police station after completing formalities following his arrest, Rajagopal spoke to the media for a few minutes. Later, Rajagopal went into the police station to get into his vehicle. In the meantime, a group of Telangana advocates arrived at the police station. They tried to barge into the police station to attack Rajagopal. But the timely intervention of the policemen present there, prevented them from attacking Rajagopal. The MP, who was ready to leave, changed his mind and stayed in the police station stating that he would give reply to the proTelangana leaders who questioned his visit to the RTA office. The MP reportedly expressed doubts over his safety if he goes out of the police station. The police officials tried to persuade Rajagopal to leave the police station assuring him of adequate security. For two hours, Rajagopal remained in his car while Telangana activists, including Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee (TAJAC) coconvenor T Sriranga, were raising slogans against him.

The police had a tough time to control the surge of Telangana activists and several of them were picked up. Student activists who reached the police station, lay in front of the police vehicles carrying the arrested leaders, prompting the cops to use force. Meanwhile, the police blocked vehicular traffic on the road to Pedamma temple junction to shift Rajagopal to his residence. But the MP did not budge. West Zone DCP Stephen Ravindra and others tried to persuade him to leave the police station. City police commissioner AK Khan reportedly spoke to Rajagopal over phone and assured him of adequate security. With Telangana activists thronging the place in large numbers, the police sensed trouble and decided to shift the MP who sat in his car after locking the doors.
