TDP vs Centre on paddy price issue
The TDP has been pressing for the minimum supply price of paddy to be at par with wheat.

Andhra Pradesh: The TDP in Andhra Pradesh is protesting against the government's cold response to its demand of hiking the minimum supply price of paddy.

The current minimum supply price is Rs 725 per quintal as against Rs 1000 per quintal of wheat.

The TDP and other political parties have been pressing for the minimum supply price of paddy to be at par with wheat. Party leaders protested by staging a dharna at the Assembly all night.

TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu said, “If there is any commitment towards farmers, Chief Minister has to come and answer all these things. He has to assure the farmers that he will give thousand rupees. Even the government of India has to come down they have to give Rs 1000 then only we are going to leave this government.”

He also alleged that Chief Minister was ''twisting facts'' to claim that the MSP hike forwheat would come into force only from next year and the difference between the MSP for wheat and rice was only Rs 75 per quintal.

Naidu said that it was the millers, who cornered the bonus announced for paddy.

Addressing farmers in Adilabad, he urged the Centre to announce the MSP for all crops before the commencement of cultivation, so that the farmers could decide whether to go for a particular crop or not. He asserted that the TDP would wage a relentless struggle till justice was done to the peasants.
