CHENNAI: Walking into the lobby of the Le Royal Meridien on Saturday evening, it was evident that they took their Christmas seriously. Standing at a massive 35 feet, their Christmas tree was a sight to behold. It was so tall that the star on top almost touched the domed ceiling. In fact, this Christmas tree might just be longer than Santa’s trip down the chimney! “This is a tradition we have had every year since the hotel opened in 2001,” said Jennifer Buhr, General Manager. Asked how long it had taken to decorate it, she said, “Well, we usually do it overnight. It takes about 12-16 people pitching in.”Rev Dr D Mohan, Senior Pastor, New Life Assembly of God Church too delivered a brief message and prayer. Then, with the flick of a switch, he turned on the multiple streams of white lights, that perfectly complimented the flakes of cotton-wool snow. The pastor also inaugurated the Gourmandises, their Ginger Bread House, thus kicking off Christmas festivities at the Le Royal Meridien.
