Symbols allotted to candidates

KOCHI: UDF candidate Anoop Jacob has been allotted the symbol ‘battery torch’ for the Piravom bypoll which will be held on March 17.When the deadline to withdraw the nominations ended on Saturday, nine candidates are left in the fray.Returning officer E R Shobana granted the candidates their chosen symbols.LDF candidate M J Jacob stuck to the Marxist symbol of sickle, hammer and star, while BJP candidate Rajagopalan Nair has chosen lotus.Television (Janata Party candidate Varghese P Cherian), gas cylinder (Socialist Republican Party candidate Akkavila Salim), lion (All- India Forward Bloc candidate Suresh N T), ceiling fan (independent candidate Arundathi), candle (independent candidate K G Krishnan Kutty) and cup and saucer (independent candidate Bindu Haridas) are the symbols chosen by other candidates
