Speaking lessons in mother tongue

KOCHI: Mathrubhasha Prasanga Kalari, a new initiative aimed at improving the public speaking and leadership skills using the medium of Malayalam, will be inaugurated here on Tuesday.It is the first in a series of lecture workshops that are being organised in all major towns and educational centres in Kerala.   The initiative stems from the awareness that there is a lack of opportunity for developing communication and leadership skills through Malayalam even for technically and academically brilliant individuals.The Mathrubhasha Prasanga Kalari session will be two hours of prepared speeches, impromptu speeches, evaluation of these speeches and guest speeches. The focus is on ‘learn by doing’ approach as members take up different roles by turn at weekly meetings. Members will evaluate one another’s performance, which will help each member to improve. Meetings will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at YMCA, Palarivattom.
