Some seers back only their community

MYSORE: In what seemed a veiled taunt at former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Lingayat mutts, state BJP president K S Eshwarappa has asked the people to reject “narrow-minded” seers of mutts and politicians, who indulge in strengthening their own community instead of focusing on the society. He was delivering the presidential address at the BJP SC Morcha Convention ‘Swabhimana Samavesha’ here on Friday. “Extend your support to the seers trying to unite Hindu society; we too welcome them. Some narrow- minded seers and politicians only think of their community, and they need to be opposed outright,” he said. Eshwarappa referred to the heinous practice of untouchability which is still in practice in some parts, and the Made Made Snana, which is being supported by some seers.Urging Dalits to lead a respectful life, he said: “People have cornered the Congress and the JD(S) for their mistakes. You should not support politicians offering money and liquor for votes.”
