Snowfall in hills, plains get rains
The people living in the plains of Punjab and Haryana were under the grip of some unusual warm weather this month.

Chandigarh: Ending the long dry spell, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on Sunday received snowfall while the plains of Punjab and Haryana received light to moderate amount of rainfall.

Ski resort Gulmarg had received 50 cm of snowfall while Sonamarg, another key tourist destination in Kashmir Valley was covered by thick white blanket at 61 cm, the Meteorological Department sources said.

They said that Dras sector (44 cm) and Banihal Top (5 cm) in J&K were also covered by the snow.

Srinagar was lashed by heavy rainfall at 38 cm while Jammu (7.4 mm) received light rain on Saturday night.

In HP, Solang Nullah had received 1 cm of snow and 24 mm of rain while Manali was lashed by 16 mm of rain. Patsio was covered by 24 cm of snow until early Sunday morning.

The people living in the plains of Punjab and Haryana which were under the grip of some unusual warm weather during major part of this month also heaved a sigh of relief and there was something to cheer about for the farmers as many of their crops were under the threat of suffering damage due to the sudden rise in temperatures.

Chandigarh had an overcast sky and the city was lashed by light rain and hail on Sunday. The maximum temperature in the city had shot upto 31.8 degrees celsius on Saturday.

Amritsar, Patiala, Ropar and Pathankot in Punjab were among other places to receive rain.

Hisar, Karnal and Sonepat in Haryana too received light showers.

Delhi, which recorded a high of 34.1 C on Saturday, had an overcast sky and some areas received drizzle on Sunday.
