THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 79th Sivagiri pilgrimage and the centenary of the installation of the idol of Sree Sarada will begin on Friday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the three-day celebrations on the Sivagiri Madhom campus, Varkala, at 9.30 am.The inaugural function will be presided over by Prakashananda Swamikal, president of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust. Sudhananda Swamikal will deliver the benedictory address. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and Sivagiri Monitoring Committee member Gokulam Gopalan will deliver the keynote addresses. T P Sreenivasan, Dr Achuth Sankar S Nair, B Satyan MLA and P K Jayaprakash will offer felicitations.Speaker G Karthikeyan will inaugurate the health and anti-alcohol meeting at 1 pm. Former Minister P K Sreemathi and former Union Minister P C Thomas will be the chief guests. Medical University Vice-Chancellor Dr K Mohandas will deliver the keynote address and inaugurate the website of the Sivagiri Nursing college.The pilgrimage procession and meeting will be held on December 31. The agriculture and industries conference to be held at 1 pm. will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan. Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will preside over the function.The science and technology conference will be opened by Transport and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar at 3.30 pm. C Radhakrishan will open the literary meeting at 5 pm.The valedictory function will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj at 4 pm on January 1. Former Irrigation Minister N K Premachandran will be chief guest. Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal will preside.
