Gangtok: Four Army personnel have been killed in a helicopter crash in north Sikkim, Eastern Army Command sources have told CNN-IBN. The Army helicopter, with two pilots and two soldiers, went missing on Thursday while flying over north Sikkim.
The wreckage of the helicopter, which was taking part in a routine training exercise near the China border, was found on Friday morning. Bad weather had stalled the rescue operation.
The Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv helicopter of the Army Aviation Corps had taken off from Sewak Road Base in Siliguri at 10.30 AM, Army sources said.
It lost radio contact at around 11.30 AM. The base is under the 33 Corps Headquarters based in Siliguri.
Dhruv is an indigenously-developed helicopter inducted in the Army only recently.
