All she’s doing is performing a routine that any first-time actor like her has to do, en route to shedding their inhibitions. Part of Evam’s First Rush, a movement to help first-time actors adapt to the world of theatre, Narmada is part of an 18-member group called Shot Glass Productions. Sweating it out to get stage ready for their first-ever play, ‘Script Tease’, Narmada says, “It has helped me tremendously. I’m more self-confident now.”Besides Narmada, the current batch has members from all walks of life who are working hard to accommodate daily rehearsals into their schedules. Take for instance, business consultant Sourav Jain, who has been winding up early at work from last month so that he can be on time for rehearsals. It’s the same story with businessman Prashanth Nagarajan, who arrives in formal clothes for rehearsals straight out of office. Zainab Saraiya, a Vis-Comm student, narrates, “Once our auditorium was occupied by a different group. As we get time slots for each play, we didn’t want to waste time and so we started rehearsing in the open space outside the auditorium. And then it started to rain! We then had to fit in our director’s car to rehearse.”Script Tease is a collection of 13 short plays, with genres ranging from comedy, romcom and drama .
