SHIMOGA: People of the district were apprehensive about whether development works initiated by B S Yeddyurappa would be taken forward by the next chief minister. This apprehension springs out of previous experiences. Though the CM baton was carried from S Bangarappa to Veerappa Moily in 1992, projects started by Bangarappa never saw an immediate end. The upgradation of McGann hospital initiated by Bangarappa was completed by Yeddyurappa when he was deputy CM in the coalition government. The people had high hopes when S Bangarappa became the CM in 1990. Some of the major works taken up by Bangarappa were upgrading the district Mc Gann hospital, constituted Jog Development Authority to develop Jog as a major tourism spot, establish an agriculture college and KSRTC bus stand. With Bangarappa’s exit, the up gradation of Mc Gann hospital came to a halt. The next government headed by then CM Veerappa Moily dissolved Shimoga-Bhadravati corporation and Jog development authority never saw development in Jog Falls. During the tenure of J H Patel, the district failed to get any big projects. He was busy in fragmenting the district and constituting Davanagere as a district headquarters taking away Honnali and Channagiri taluks from the district. Later, Patel concentrated in developing Davanagere rather than Shimoga. The era of BSY is over and the million dollar question is weather sanctioned projects and projects in progress would be completed?

What's your reaction?
