She Didn't Like Going To The Hospital Anymore, Alleges Kolkata Doctor's Mother

The mother of the 31-year-old doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata’s RG Kar MCH said her daughter did not want to go to the hospital in the last days leading up to the attack. “She used to say that she doesn’t like going to RG Kar anymore,” the mother stated.

She also claimed that Kolkata Police officials made them wait outside the crime scene for three hours to see her body. “They were not letting us see our dead daughter’s face. We kept pleading but weren’t allowed to see her face. We were told an investigation was going on. They made us suffer a lot,” the mother of the doctor said.

She also alleged that some policemen tried to “vandalise my daughter’s car”. “They tried to get rid of us as soon as possible. I told them, ‘I lost my daughter. Pls don’t do anything to her car, which she was so fond of.’ I have lost everything,” she said.

The father of the deceased doctor complained that no one from the department of the hospital where his daughter worked has contacted them since the incident.

BJP leader Amit Malviya took to microblogging site X and accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Kolkata police of destroying the evidence. “Mamata Banerjee and the Commissioner of Kolkata Police should stop pretending to be “holier than thou” when both of them are devils,” he said.

Sharing the deceased doctor’s mother’s interview, the BJP leader wrote, “Mamata Banerjee is evil. If there was any doubt that she and Kolkata Police tried to destroy evidence, listen to the mother of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital victim. The mother of the RG Kar rape and murder victim narrates how Kolkata Police harassed them, to the extent that they had to fall on their feet. They were pressuring the family and gave the dead body after prolonged persuasion and pleading. Kolkata Police even tried to destroy victim’s car… Why?”

On the other hand, Mamata Banerjee lauded the Kolkata Police’s investigation into the case which was later handed to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The TMC supremo also accused the BJP of “spreading false information on social media to hide the truth”.

“We want the truth to come out, but some quarters are spreading lies to mislead people. Attempts are being made to hide the truth by circulating fake news on social media. We condemn these activities. We want the culprits to be punished,” Banerjee was quoted by PTI as saying.
