CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has come out with guidelines for schools to hire generators in the run-up to the upcoming board examinations. After week-long discussions with officials of the Directorate of School Education and TANGEDCO, the guidelines note that schools can now hire generators during March and April. District-level committees have also been formed to ensure the smooth supply of generator sets to high and higher secondary schools. Each committee would be chaired by the Collector of the respective district and would also comprise the Chief Educational Officer, Executive Engineer of TNEB and Executive Engineer (Works) of the PWD.The cost for the hiring of the generators have been fixed at a maximum of Rs 40,200 per month for government-run schools and Rs 26,800 per month for aided and private schools. This amount would include mobilisation costs, installation charges, crew charges and fuel charges. The schools have also been asked to run the gensets only for the time of the power outages. All hiring charges for individual schools would be subject to the approval of the district-level committee.Private and aided schools have been asked to hire generators on their own, subject to the pricing given by the government.
