New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a fresh plea against the imminent eviction of residents of illegal flats in Campa Cola society in Mumbai.
The apex court will hear the plea on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued notices to the residents asking them to hand over the keys. The BMC Standing Committee will meet on Friday to discuss the demolition of 35 illegal floors.
The Supreme Court had ruled that the residents of the illegal flats must vacate by May 31. There are 35 illegal floors with 96 illegal flats in the society.
Politicians till now have offered nothing but lip service. However, residents are hopeful that Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will give them a hearing.
It is unlikely that civic officials will forcefully evict the residents unlike the last time when the civic body was criticised for the inhuman approach. But residents insist that even if one family is homeless, everyone will stay put.
