New Delhi: Samsung has finally announced the launch of its much-awaited Galaxy Note II smartphone-cum-tablet combo at Rs 39,990 in India. The phone will be available in India starting next week, said Samsung.
The Galaxy Note II features a 5.5-inch (14.09 cm) HD Super AMOLED screen, which is narrower but longer than on the first version. The processor is faster, and the software has been further adapted for the included stylus - the phone's signature feature.
The new Galaxy Note, like its predecessor, comes with a stylus called the S Pen. The new S Pen is longer, thicker and is said to be ergonomically designed.
It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.
The Note runs the latest version of Google's Android operating system - version 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Note is designed to work well with a stylus for jotting notes and drawing on a screen, while styluses for other devices tend to be an afterthought.
The phone has an internal memory of 16 GB, which is expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card. It will come packed with a 3100 mAh battery. The phone has an 8 megapixel camera and a 1.9 megapixel front camera.
The Note's large screen also makes the phone more like a tablet and more suitable for playing games and consuming content.
A feature called Popup Note extends the concept of Popup Play, which lets users open an S Note instantly as a pop-up window anywhere on the screen. For example, when a user pulls out the S Pen during a phone call, the S Note application automatically pops up on the screen, allowing users to jot down a quick note.
Its Air View feature allows users to hover with the S Pen over an email, S Planner, image gallery, or video to preview the content without having to open it.
The phablet was unveiled on August 29, 2012 at the IFA 2012 Berlin Consumer Electronics Show.
