Right to Information as a movement is picking up as more and more people are joining in, including the bureaucrats.

New Delhi: So is the Govt trying to block people’s Right to Information as the protests get louder.

The bureaucrats too have joined in.

But lets first find out what the Govt amendments say and how do they affect us.

No file notings, except those relating to development & social issues, which means though the decisions of the govt would be known, the basis on which they have been taken will not be given.

No access to material based on which ministers took decisions, hence no transparency.

No access to identities of those who have recorded notings, so no accountability.

All information related to the process of examination is exempted.

No access to information on suitability of a person for appointment or promotion.

And most importantly, no access to information on decisions in process. Which means we would no longer be able to question delays in any sector.

It’s a cause for concern indeed, but things are looking brighter.

But the good news is, RTI as a movement is certainly picking up. Just recently after the Sonepur school bus mishap, disturbed parents are demanding their children’s right to safety.
