BANGALORE: The residents of Vidyaraynapura Ward are crippled under innumerable civic issues. They have been demanding the Burhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to provide little bit solace from most of the roads that are either dug up or full of potholes. They also complained about the traffic jams that have become a daily feature at a few localities in Vidyaranyapura Ward. The BBMP had spent around 8 crore for various development works at areas such as Bullet Krishnappa Layout, Durgaparameshwari Layout, Canara Bank Layout, Kempe Gowda Layout, Thindlu and Saptagiri Layout. However, the residents opine that the BBMP has to do a lot to mitigate the civic woes at Vidyaranyapura Ward. There are many houses that are yet to have under ground drain (UGD) facility. “Not even a single house has the UGD facility. We have been paying property tax for many years but the authorities are yet to provide UGD facility. I have already complained to the BBMP authorities about the need to replace the fused bulb (Pole No. 27) but in vain,’’ said G K Katti, a resident of Sapthagiri Layout. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board had dug up many roads at Sapthagiri Layout and other areas in Vidyaranyapura Ward to lay UGD pipes but not taken measures to direct the authorities concerned to asphalt the roads. The residents had underwent all types of hassles during the last monsoon due to the slush on the roads. “The BWSSB has already laid water as well as UGD pipes but efforts were not made to facilitate the residents to use those facilities,’’ said S Jyothi, a resident. The open storm water drain near the Sapthagiri Layout is posing a great danger to the two-wheeler riders during the night due to lack of street lights. “There are occasions where a few two-wheeler riders fell in the storm water drain due to lack of enough lighting. I request the BBMP authorities to put up more street lights near the storm water drain to avoid any accidents,’’ said a resident. Meanwhile, K Nandini, Corporator said that she had taken a lot of measures to provide all the facilities that are necessary for the development of Vidyaraynapura Ward. She said, “The BBMP had taken measures to rejuvenate and develop Narasipura Lake at the cost of ` 1.75 crore. We have taken up the development of Narasipura Lake. The work on walking path and sewage water treatment unit is under progress. We are also planning to develop a lake near Ganapathi Temple,’’ said Nandini. She further added that the BBMP plans to widen roads from Thindlu to Nanjappa Circle, from Thindlu to Vidyaranyapura and Kodigehalli Road to ensure vehicular movement without any hassles. “The BBMP has also allocated ` 6 lakh for a maternity home and plans to develop a three-acre playground at BEL Layout 4th Block,’’ said the Corporator. She had explained that the BBMP dug up 27 borewells to mitigate water woes at many localities in Vidyaranyapura Ward adding that among the 27 borewells, three became a liability. ‘’Our focus will be to asphalt as many roads as possible apart from trying to ensure water supply on regular basis,’’ she said.
