THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 9th National Lifesaving Sport Championships ‘Rescue India-2011’ will be held at LNCPE Swimming Complex Thiruvananthapuram and at Kovalam beach from August 26 to 30. The championship is being organised by the Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India) (RLSS (I)) to promote the concept of lifesaving and related sports amongst the youth and involve them in the lifesaving movement.The four-day championship will have events like Obstacle Swim, Manikin Carry with Fins, Super Lifesaver, Rescue Medley etc. The beach events will be held on a selection trial basis, to select Indian teams to take part in the China Lifesaving Tournament which will be held from September 18 to 24 in Ningbo city of Zhejiang Province in China.During the event, teams will also be selected for the RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships-2011 to be held at Durban, South Africa, from September 27 to October 1 and also for the first South Asian Beach Games being held at Hambantota, Sri Lanka, from October 8 to 14.The ‘Rescue India 2011’ National Pool Lifesaving Championship is approved by the International Lifesaving Federation and Royal Lifesaving Society (Commonwealth). The International Lifesaving Federation is officially recognised and affiliated to the International Olympic Committee for the conduct of lifesaving sports internationally.
