State Excise Minister Renukacharya revealed that he was creating pressure on BJP leaders to get an additional portfolio.
He told reporters here on Saturday that he had met Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, BJP state president K S Eshwarappa and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to discuss this.
He added that he was unhappy as Excise Department is small.
“Ministers Raju Gowda and Govinda Karajol are also demanding additional portfolios,” he claimed.
Renukacharya added that he had requested BJP leaders to make B S Yeddyurappa as president of the state unit of the party.
“His presence is needed in order to achieve success in next elections.” Sports Minister Appachu Ranjan also revealed that he had met Shettar and Eshwarappa as he wanted Panchayat Raj portfolio.
Renukacharya said that the Excise Department has announced 17 districts and 126 taluks as illicit-liquor free in state the state.
According to him, the Department was able to close down 1,955 units brewing illicit liquor.
“There are 93 such units in different districts which also will be closed down in a phased manner,” he said.
Minister Wants to Take Truth Test
State Excise Minister Renukacharya will follow chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s footsteps and take the ‘truth test’ in front of the presiding deity in Dharmasthala.
Initially, Renukacharya denied charges of corruption levelled against him.
He told reporters in Circuit house on Saturday that he was ready to take oath on not receiving any bribe from wine merchants.
He rubbished corruption charges made by D K Wine Merchants Association (DKWMA) vice president R Dhanaraj.
Dhanaraj told Express that Renukacharya had demanded `25,000 each from wine shops in the district a year ago.
However, no sooner Dhanaraj invited Renukacharya to Dharmastala Manjunatha temple for the test, the latter refused.
“I stand by my words and I will take the challenge offered by any one except Dhanuraj,” said Renukacharya.
